Background

Psychosocial interventions for the treatment of opioid use disorder (OUD) could improve the outcomes of your opioid maintenance treatments (OMTs) with methadone or buprenorphine.

Furthermore, comorbid mental health problems like depression and anxiety are prevalent among people receiving OMTs. If you are suffering from these problems, psychosocial treatment could help you to alleviate them.

Despite the benefits of receiving psychosocial services along with OMTs, some patients do not actively participate in these programs due to a range of reasons mainly time constraints. Besides, psychosocial treatments addressing common mental health problems were not available in OMT programs routinely.

In recent years using smartphones has dramatically increased and we use smartphone apps in our everyday life for different purposes including getting health information from the Internet.

As a result of the considerable increases in overall online access through smartphones, smartphone-based interventions could potentially play a significant role in delivering needed services to people with substance use disorders (SUDs).

Many smartphone-based interventions to substitute or enhance in-person SUDs have already been made and have shown promising results internationally. Although no smartphone-based SUDs treatment has been developed and evaluated in Iran yet. PROMPT will be the first one.

What is PROMPT

PROMPT is a web-based intervention that can be used on smartphones or any other device that can display a website.

PROMPT is providing an entire spectrum of behavioral services including assessment, education, psychosocial treatments, and recovery management for individuals with OUD receiving OMTs.

PROMPT is developed using evidence-based behavioral intervention for the treatment of SUDs including motivational interviewing, cognitive, behavioral treatment, and community-reinforcement approach.

Your treatment providers will integrate PROMPT into their routine work with you.

In PROMPT, you are encouraged to complete 10 online education and skills training modules. Completing these modules:

  • Enable you to review clinically important content, such as therapeutic content or psychoeducational material, without having to devote extensive time to such activities through in-person sessions.
  • Allow you to monitor your treatment success and provide you with visual feedback charts.
  • Enable your clinicians to increase their time availability; focus more of their time on the delivery of services that require their clinical expertise and interaction with you

PROMPT strives to improve your OMT experience through transcending geographic boundaries and reducing barriers to accessing care by providing a resource in your pocket that could be accessible on demand.

Requirements

PROMPT is available for free to anyone in Iran who is in an opioid maintenance treatment program. To use it you need a device to display websites (smartphone, tablet, laptop), have access to the internet and a good command in Farsi. You will create your personal online account to which all your data is connected.

Currently, PROMPT is scientifically examined, therefore, by participating in PROMPT you are also participating in a scientific study. There are some additional requirement for the study and further important information you need to read before enrolling in the study.
